This Privacy Policy describes how Hapitalist, a publication operated by Wannabe Press, LLC, collects, uses, and protects your personally identifiable information (PII). PII is information that can be used on its own or with other information to identify, contact, or locate a single person. Please read this policy carefully to understand how we handle your data.

Wannabe Press, LLC is the owner and data controller for Hapitalist.

1. Information We Collect

When You Subscribe or Register

When you subscribe to Hapitalist or create an account, we may collect your name, email address, and payment information. Payment transactions are processed by Stripe and are not stored on our servers.

When You're Added Through Cross-Promotion

Hapitalist participates in cross-promotion programs through Substack and other publishing platforms. If you are added to our list through one of these programs, you will receive an email giving you the opportunity to opt out at any time. We do not consider you an active subscriber until you have had the opportunity to opt out and have chosen to remain on the list.

When You Visit the Site

When you visit hapitalist.com, we and our third-party service providers may automatically collect certain information about your device and usage, including browser type, pages visited, time spent on pages, and general geographic location. This information is collected through cookies and tracking technologies described in Section 4.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

Service Providers

Ghost — our website hosting and membership platform. Ghost processes subscriber and member data to deliver the site and gated content.

Stripe — our payment processor. Stripe handles all payment transactions. We do not store credit card information on our servers. See Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy.

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — our email marketing platform. Kit stores subscriber email addresses and usage data and is used to send marketing communications and sequences.

Substack — used during our platform migration and for ongoing cross-promotion with other Substack publications. Subscribers migrated from Substack or added through Substack cross-promotions are subject to Substack's privacy policy at substack.com/privacy during the transition period.

Google Analytics — we use Google Analytics 4 to analyze site traffic and user behavior. Google Analytics collects data including browser information, device type, session statistics, and approximate location. You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout.

Meta (Facebook) Pixel — we use the Meta Pixel to track conversions and deliver targeted advertising on Facebook and Instagram. Meta may use this data to show you ads on its platforms. You can manage your Meta ad preferences at facebook.com/ads/preferences.

Other Third-Party Tools — we may use additional third-party tools for analytics, advertising, or site functionality. Where such tools collect personal data, we will endeavor to list them here or notify you through an updated privacy policy.

We may share your information with service providers, analytics partners, and marketing providers as described below.

We collect your email address to send newsletters, product updates, marketing communications, and transactional emails related to your membership or purchases. In accordance with the CAN-SPAM Act, we agree to the following:

— We include our physical address in email communications.

Data Portability: You have the right to receive your personal data in a structured, commonly used, and machine-readable format, and to transmit that data directly to another service.

We provide basic privacy settings to manage your data preferences.

7. California Privacy Rights (CCPA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information we collect about you, request deletion of your personal information, and opt out of the sale of your personal information. In accordance with CalOPPA, users can visit our site anonymously. This privacy policy is accessible from our website. You will be notified of any changes to this policy on this page. You can update or correct your personal information by emailing us.

8. Children's Privacy (COPPA)

Hapitalist does not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. We do not specifically market to children. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We take reasonable measures to protect your personal information from unauthorized access, disclosure, or loss. All payment transactions are processed through Stripe using SSL encryption and are not stored on our servers. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal information, we will notify you via email within a reasonable timeframe.

Data Retention: We retain your personal information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide our Service. After account deletion, we delete your data within 30 days except where retention is required by law.

Security Measures: Security Measures: We implement advanced security measures along with encryption, access controls, and regular security assessments.

Children's Data Protection: If we discover we have collected personal information from a child under 13 without parental consent, we will delete that information promptly.

International Transfers: We may transfer your personal information to other countries. When we do, we ensure appropriate safeguards are in place, including Standard Contractual Clauses approved by data protection authorities.

11. Do Not Track

Some browsers offer a Do Not Track (DNT) setting. Because there is no industry standard for how DNT signals should be interpreted, our site does not currently alter its behavior in response to DNT signals. We will revisit this as standards develop.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page reflects the most recent revision. Continued use of the site following any update constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
