Great stuff! I can't wait to put some of these tips into practice at my next event. I'm leaning more into small, one-day book festivals over multi-day cons. They're more cost effective for me, but I love going to cons. Here in the southeast, I use the Southern Fandom Resource Guide to find cons.
Great article! I was hesitant to do in-person events, but I started three years and now do about a dozen every year--always within a day's drive. I go to both author fairs and general bazaars. I write historical mysteries set in my own backyard, so I lean into the local aspect. Often, I do as well at general bazaars as at book-centric events. I'm using most of your tips, but I haven't advertised the "If you buy two books, you get X, Y, or Z." I've just been giving a pen and/or notepad to those who buy multiple books. For people who buy a set of 4-8, I include a canvas tote bag. I backed off other extras to sell, but I'm rethinking for the coming season (April-December is my sweet spot for events). Thanks for these tips! Always learning. :-)
